looks great 👍
I only watched 5 minutes of this show before turning it off so please consider that with this review. It is heartbreaking to see the tragic and poignant story of Lady Jane Grey be turned into a "smutty comedy", especially if you know anything about the real historical figure. Lady Jane Grey was only 16 when she was crowned Queen of England as part of political scheming by others around her. She was queen for a brief 9 days and then imprisoned by her cousin Mary who eventually beheaded both Jane and her husband because Mary was worried that the people may support them and take her throne. Lady Jane Grey never wanted the throne and yet she was executed because of the pride and fear of others. As a woman of great Christian faith, Jane was often seen reading Scripture and praying. She went to her death knowing that her faith in Christ meant this was not the end of her journey. The character of Jane in this show is a polar opposite of the real person and sadly, many will never research her true story. I understand this show is based on a YA book (which I have not read) but I am amazed that anyone would be comfortable letting their teens watch this series. What a shame it is to know that this real person is associated with such a disappointing and raunchy show.
When I started the episode, the first thing I looked at was the duration. I don't know why, but in recent shows, they are obsessed with making 45+ minute dramas. Every other show is like that, no matter if they have any actual story or not. No one is free enough to watch such long TV shows. Can't we just watch a movie instead of 2-3 episodes? Also, the show is trying very hard to be funny, but it's not unless your age is less than 15. I couldn't watch the full episode; I thought it would be funny and interesting like The Great or Dickinson, but it is not. The cast and the location are good, but I don't think just using bad language in a historical show makes it funny. The comedy should be on point and it should feel natural. Also, who thought to add supernatural elements to a historical show? I mean, characters can turn into animals, really? Why don't you just make flying people and add some robots and dinosaurs to make it completely crazy? I am not saying the minutes of the first episode I watched were bad or dull, but I have seen similar shows and this wasn't interesting enough to watch for 50 minutes and 8 more episodes of similar duration. Overall, if the duration had been 30-35 minutes and the show had been funnier and more interesting, I would have watched the full series. But I don't think it's for me. I'm skipping it.
