I don't understand all the terrible reviews. This was a decent sequel to Tall Girl and addressed important issues many teens go through like anxiety and negative self-talk. The pace was moderate through out with a few funny moments in between. Overall, it was OK, light entertainment. Definitely a movie to have on in the background.
I enjoyed the original Tall Girl movie. I did enjoy this sequel, but had a major disappointment. The good....many of the secondary characters were fleshed out more and showed some growth. They were interesting. The bad...The tall girl herself was kind of annoying. She couldn't figure out her love life, and the whole "doubting voice in her head" thing was stupid. The actress was as good as ever...her musical numbers were great, but the writers really let her character down.
This movie normalize panic attacks. It's okay to get nervous but to make it seem like every nervous moment is a panic attack is absolutely ridicules, there is no character development, and everything about this movie is just bad. An actual waste of time.
I wasn't a fan of the first film as the character of Dunkleman is childish, toxic and controlling, yet gets with Jodie who isn't all that special but seems to think she is. This film takes the worst things about their personalities and amplifies them. So this time round, Jodie is even more arrogant and self absorbed and manages to only engage with people if it's beneficial to her. She is a terrible friend and a drama queen. She skips her best friends birthday to attend some cringe event where of course, the fake tears come out and everyone flocks to her aid. She seems to be oblivious to anyone else's situation or feelings. Bit most of all she is a fool for not moving on from the overly controlling and toxic that is dunkleman or dunkers to give him his even more annoying nickname. So, this guy, is just so unlikeable, pathetic and petty. He has no life outside Jodie, literally does not exist as a person without her. Gets jealous at everything. Is a hypocrite and a whiney little loser. Their story does not progress at all and every other charcter is only there setup more pettiness from the both if them. The only characters who are interesting and likable in this movie are Stig and Freeda where their relationship and friendship was actually written quite well. Horrendous film. The two main charcaters are so toxic to each other, its a terrible message for teenagers in relationships.
