The Handmaid's Tale S1-S6

The series also made me think about how often religion (especially Christianity) is used by people to justify controlling women. I'm not saying that's what every Christian believes. I'm talking about how people throughout history have used God's name, Jesus' name, and the Bible to excuse cruelty, oppression, and misogyny. That's one of the reasons I no longer believe in organized religion. I don't need anyone to convince me otherwise. My views come from what I've seen, what I've experienced, and what history continues to show us! On a more personal note, watching this was difficult because I'm currently with someone whose biggest dream seems to be having children. Sometimes it feels like that's all he talks about when we're talking about anything related to u"us". It made me reflect on how easily some people can reduce women to motherhood without fully understanding the emotional, physical, and psychological weight that comes with it. They don't care even 😩🤮

1) I just finished The Handmaid's Tale, and I genuinely don't understand how anyone can rate this series 8/10. To me, it's a 1000/10. This wasn't just a TV show. It was painful to watch because it felt so close to reality. Episode after episode, I found myself crying... Not because it was fictional, but because so much of it already exists in different forms around the world. The way women are treated in Gilead is horrifying, but what hit me the hardest was realizing that many women already live versions of that reality. Maybe not in the exact same uniforms or under the exact same laws, but through control, misogyny, violence, forced pregnancies, grape, having their children taken away, and being treated as if their only value is what their bodies can produce. As someone who has experienced having my own child taken away through trafficking, this series struck a place in me that I can't even describe 😭😭😭
